Increasingly, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has attracted attention with its dense programme of high-class cultural activities. In autumn 2007, the Luxembourg Festival assembles for the first time exceptional productions of concert, opera, dance, musical theatre and visual arts in a multidisciplinary international collaboration. On the initiative of the Philharmonie and the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg in partnership with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg (OPL) and the Stater Muséeën the Luxembourg Festival will present a seven week programme in October and November with outstanding productions and countless highlights. The gala opening with Emmanuel Krivine conducting the OPL will be followed by a series of outstanding performances: a staged production of Wolfgang A. Mozart’s opera Le Nozze di Figaro performed by the Concerto Köln (in collaboration with the Aix-en-Provence Festival). Then a concert performance of Mozart’s Don Giovanni presented by the Vienna State Opera and the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra conducted by Christian Thielemann featuring a selection from Wagner’s Ring des Nibelungen. Furthermore the festival features the new première by the Nederlands Dans Theater, Grigory Sokolov, Michael Nyman, Culture Musical Club, Dianne Reeves, the performance of a new work by Heiner Goebbels, and a multitude of other opera, ballet, theatre and concert evenings.
